Hi, I’m Ali Hasan
I’m the person behind ZeroToGardener — a marketing coordinator by day, and by night (and every weekend), the guy my neighbors call “the plant guy of Maple Street.” I live in a small apartment with one south-facing window and a balcony barely big enough to turn around in. Today it holds over 60 plants. Five years ago, I couldn’t keep a single one alive.
ZeroToGardener exists because I spent years killing plants before I figured out how to stop — and I got tired of every resource online being written either for lifelong experts or as vague, copy-pasted advice that never actually explained why anything worked.
Who This Site Is For
This site is built for complete beginners — especially people in apartments, small homes, or anywhere without a big yard, who want some greenery in their life without it becoming a source of guilt or stress. If you’ve ever been called someone with a “black thumb,” you’re exactly who I’m writing for.
What I Cover
- Low-maintenance plant guides — care instructions for the plants that are hardest to kill, indoors and out
- Troubleshooting help — figuring out exactly what’s wrong with a struggling plant and how to fix it
- Plant comparisons — straightforward answers to “which one is actually easier to keep alive”
- Lifestyle-based recommendations — plants suited to low light, frequent travel, pets, or a genuinely forgetful watering schedule
My Approach
Every guide here is based on something I’ve actually grown, killed, revived, or successfully kept alive myself — never repackaged information from other sites. I test care routines before I recommend them, and when something doesn’t work, I write about that too. If a plant needs something complicated to survive, I’ll tell you upfront instead of setting you up to fail.
I publish at least one in-depth guide a week, and every post includes real photos from my own plants and space — no stock images.
Let’s Grow Something Together
If you’re bringing home your first plant, start with “Zero to Green: Your First 30 Days With a New Plant.” Got a plant that’s struggling? Drop a comment on any guide — I read and respond to every one.
